AI Image Detector: Check If a Photo Is AI-Generated
Want to tell if an image is AI-generated but do not know which tool made it? Use this AI image detector for unknown-source checks. Slop or Not layers SynthID watermark reads, signed Content Credentials/C2PA, editable IPTC metadata, and visual AI traces without passing online uploads to outside AI companies.
What it checks
Check Unknown-Source AI Images Across Provenance and Pixels
SynthID watermark checks for supported OpenAI and Google/Gemini images
C2PA Content Credentials and IPTC metadata when the file carries them
Image classifier output when provenance is stripped or inconclusive
Good Uses
- Checking profile photos before trusting an account
- Reviewing product images before publishing or buying
- Screening AI-looking images when the source model is unknown
Limits to Know
- Official provider verifiers are not universal checks for every SynthID signal
- Screenshots can remove C2PA/IPTC metadata, while heavy edits can weaken watermark signals
- The result is a probability unless a readable watermark or signed credential is present
FAQ
AI Image Detector Questions
Is this also an AI photo detector?
Yes. Photo, picture, and image searches all use the same Slop or Not workflow: check the file for AI provenance clues, then read visual generator signals when the file has no readable watermark or metadata.
Does the online checker run on-device?
No. Online checks run on a private Mac server, are deleted after processing, and are not shared with third-party AI providers. The iPhone and Mac apps run detection on-device.
Can it prove an image is human-made?
No AI detector can prove human authorship in every case. Missing provenance is not a clean bill of authenticity, so Slop or Not reports evidence and probability for human review.
