Slop Or Not Help & FAQ

Here are answers to common questions about Slop Or Not. If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, please see our support options at the bottom.

Slop Or Not is an AI content detector that runs entirely on your iPhone or Mac. It checks text and images to estimate whether they were made by AI. Because it works on-device, your content stays on your device. It also works without an internet connection after setup.

It's simple. You can:

  • Check Text: Copy the text you want to analyze, open Slop Or Not, and paste it into the text field. The app will provide an instant result.
  • Check Images: Select any image or photo from your library directly within the app, or share an image from another app to Slop Or Not. The analysis happens immediately.

Slop Or Not performs all AI detection directly on your device. You will need an internet connection for the one-time setup to download the AI models. After that, you can check text and images completely offline. We use Apple's CoreML model encryption to protect our on-device transformer models. Your device may occasionally need an internet connection to refresh model encryption keys from the App Store.

Yes. Unlike many AI detectors that upload your data to a server for analysis, Slop Or Not processes everything locally on your iPhone or Mac. Your text, images, and photos never leave your device. This is ideal for checking sensitive information like legal documents, client emails, or medical records. We're based in the EU and comply with GDPR and CCPA.

Anyone who values truth and privacy! It's especially useful for:

  • Students & Teachers checking for originality in academic work.
  • Journalists & Fact-Checkers verifying the authenticity of sources and images.
  • Online Daters spotting fake “catfish” profiles.
  • Shoppers checking if product reviews are real or AI-generated.
  • Anyone wanting to identify misinformation and deepfakes on social media.

Slop Or Not uses industry-leading models for high accuracy:

  • Watermarked Images (C2PA/IPTC from Gemini image generation, OpenAI image generation, Microsoft Designer, Adobe Firefly, etc): 100% accurate detection.
  • All other AI-generated images: 90% accuracy.
  • AI-generated text: 95% accuracy.

*Note: Accuracy is based on our internal tests. Results can vary with new AI models and advanced methods designed to trick detectors.*

AI-generated text often contains hidden characters or weird formatting that can act as invisible watermarks. Our Text Cleanup feature removes these traces with a single tap. It removes: hidden characters (like zero-width spaces), suspicious punctuation and homoglyphs (letters that look like others). It can also normalize spelling (e.g., from US to UK English) and fix punctuation for you.

When you check text in Slop Or Not, the app shows a readability score on-device, alongside the AI detection result, using a formula that fits the language: English uses Flesch Reading Ease (higher is easier to read) and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (an approximate U.S. school grade); German uses Wiener Sachtextformel; Spanish uses Flesch-Szigriszt; Italian uses GULPEASE; Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian use LIX. That covers 7 languages today, with more on the way. The scores estimate how hard text is to read - they don't estimate who or what wrote it. They are approximate, so treat them as a quick gauge rather than a precise measurement. Readability stays available even when language detection confidence is low, as long as a supported language is identified.

They are fun iMessage sticker packs included with the app! When you find AI-generated content online or in chats, you can use our stickers to call it out in a lighthearted way.

Incognito Mode provides an extra layer of privacy. When enabled, the app won’t keep a history of the content you’ve checked. It’s perfect for when you are handling extra-sensitive information and want to leave no trace of the check on your device.

The agentic AI Humanizer skill lets Claude, Codex, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, Cursor, Gemini CLI, or OpenCode rewrite a draft with a five-pass workflow. It works without Slop or Not for core rewriting and voice matching. When Slop or Not is installed on Mac with Pro active, it supplies the on-device AI detector, readability, Text Cleanup, and cleanup stats through its CLI or MCP server.

Start with the install guide, the CLI guide, the MCP guide, or the voice-matching guide.

Yes, if you provide a writing sample. The skill can extract a style fingerprint for register, sentence rhythm, contractions, hedges, and paragraph shape. It should use style traits only, not private facts from the sample.

Yes. The slop CLI and slop mcp server are Pro features in the Mac app. The agentic AI Humanizer skill can still run its full five-pass rewrite workflow and voice matching without Pro, but on-device AI detector scoring, readability, Text Cleanup, and cleanup stats require Pro.

Slop or Not detection, readability, cleanup, and image checks run on your Mac. Rewriting happens in the AI assistant you choose, such as Claude, Codex, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, or Cursor. If that assistant is cloud-based, its own privacy policy applies to the rewrite and to any voice sample used for fingerprint extraction.

No. Slop or Not returns a probability verdict, not a guarantee. The CLI, MCP server, and agentic AI Humanizer loop are quality-control tools that help you inspect and revise drafts. Results can vary with short samples, new models, and heavy human editing.

GPTZero and Originality.ai are cloud AI-content suites that people often use from a web dashboard. Slop or Not focuses on local checks on iPhone and Mac. The new CLI and MCP server let your existing AI assistant use the local Slop or Not score instead of sending every check through another web humanizer workflow.

To give you a faster download from the App Store and save storage space on your device, we keep the initial app size small. The first time you launch Slop Or Not, it automatically downloads our powerful AI detection models using Apple's On-Demand Resources system. This is a one-time process. Occasionally, issues with Apple's service can interrupt this download. If it seems stuck, please check your internet connection and restart the app after a few minutes. The download should resume automatically.

Yes. When you use a low-resolution thumbnail or a screenshot, the model still runs but may return a lower confidence score because fine details are lost during our normalization step. Always try to use the original or highest-quality version of the picture. More pixels mean more clues for the detector, so results are stronger and more stable.

The text detector needs at least two full sentences to work. Very short snippets give too little context for the model to spot AI fingerprints. Whenever possible, paste a whole paragraph or the entire document. The longer the passage, the higher the detection confidence.

The world of AI is changing fast. While our detector is highly accurate, some new AI models may create content that is harder to detect. We regularly update our models to keep up.

  • The image you checked might be a low-resolution thumbnail or a heavily compressed screenshot. Try again with the highest-resolution version available.
  • The text sample could be too short. Make sure you provide at least two sentences; more text improves the results.

These quick checks solve most “false negative” reports. If the problem persists, please share the example with us so we can keep improving the app for everyone.
