Free online AI detector and checker

Free Online AI Detector for Text and Images

Paste up to 20,000 characters of English text, upload a .txt or .md file, or choose a photo. The AI text detector and AI image detector return a verdict in seconds for essays, reviews, profile photos, synthetic images, and deepfakes.

  • You can testPhotos, screenshots, product images, receipts, and profile pictures up to 8 MB.
  • ResultA probability verdict, AI score, and source details when the file carries them.
  • PrivacyDeleted the moment the check finishes. We never keep your photo.

AI detection is probabilistic. Results can vary with new AI models and evasion methods. A real photo edited with AI tools can be flagged as AI.

Online checks are deleted after processing.

How detection works

How the Free Online AI Detector Works

Slop or Not doesn't rely on one trick. It checks the most reliable signal first and falls back in order.

  1. 1 ยท Watermarks

    SynthID and Content Credentials

Google and OpenAI stamp an invisible SynthID watermark into the pixels of their images, and many tools, OpenAI included, add a C2PA Content Credential to the file. A credential names the generator, and a signed one from OpenAI, Microsoft, or Adobe is checked against a bundled trust list, so a forgery fails instead of passing as proof. A SynthID read names the provider instead, and it survives the screenshot that strips a credential.

  2. 2 ยท Image check

    Pixel-level image model

Take a screenshot and the C2PA credential may disappear. That's the problem with file metadata: it can be cut away from the image. The pixels remain, so we check those next. Slop or Not's AI image detection model looks for traces left by image generators. In our internal tests, it was about 90% accurate on non-watermarked images.

  3. 3 ยท Text model

Transformer trained on human and AI writing

A fine-tuned transformer trained on a large corpus of human and AI writing scores the passage for AI fingerprints. On the public RAID benchmark, it caught 99.5% of AI text at a 5% false-positive rate, adversarial attacks included. Full, natural sentences give a more confident result than fragments or single lines.

Image accuracy figures come from our internal tests; text detection is independently scored on RAID. Results can vary with new AI models and methods built to trick detectors.

We built on-device generative AI before Apple Intelligence existed

We're two engineers based in the EU, and we care a lot about privacy and on-device generative AI. We've spent years building privacy-first apps, and Slop or Not is one of them. It's free, and we never sell your data or hand it to anyone. If it earns a spot on your iPhone or Mac, going Pro keeps us independent and lets us keep fighting deepfakes and AI scams.
